two years later and ever the optimist, i'm beginning again. a single blog entry in 2006 just before leaving japan remained alone until today. the words of friends motivated me to enter this world of blogging. so thanks to you, here i am again in 2008. like a new year, or new day perhaps, turning a page in the age calendar renewed that feeling that the slate awaits. and what does it await? erasing and new sketches. perhaps this metaphor seems obvious to me because i employ it daily. my students often clamor, "can i erase the board?" and then, "can i write (insert subject of your choice) on the board?" so everyday there is an abudance of erasing and new sketches, and every friday i delight in cleaning it so that the white looks new, and pens of all colors line the tray....the whiteboard is now fresh for the marking.
in japanese "utsukushii" 美しい means beautiful and lends itself to the written word. beauty moves me in the tears of a friend, fills me in the color of the sky, and delights me in the laughter of my mother and the questions of children. i long to see and to be 美しい and hope this seeing and being delight my God.

hello beth! welcome back to the world of blogging! i love how you express yourself and your world, so it will be fun to pop by here and read what you are up to! :)
when i read your description of your students asking to erase and write on the board... i smiled, i remember those days. :) the fettish to touch the whiteboard. :)
and i saw a little flash of "type a" in you (heh! heh!) i was the same way. the day wasn't complete until it was all clean and the markers were back in their place. ahhh, sigh of relief. :)
